Yaoi Dreams Roleplay Forum

I can only really do it if there is active communication going with the person. I don´t need to plan out every detail, but I think being able to give feedback, talk about ideas and even sometimes about things outside of the roleplay is what really keeps it going for me.
But I personally have always been a primary group roleplayer, it's how I started roleplaying as well.

I like role playing because it's two people creating a story that they both love, bounce ideas off each other, and the thrill of waking up to see how did my partner continue the story? It also challenges me be a better writer because I have to think about what I have to push a story forward that my partner will love or hate, in a good way, and without creating complete unnecessary chaos.

Also, a lot of communication that you say is lacking happens through PMs. It's much quicker go back and forth rather than creating an OOC since it is only two people writing.

Not really…. Ive written my own books and was a ghost writer for years….. rping is fun cus there is someone else to play off of…. But the two are pretty much the same. Writing is writing. It just depends on the story… and the people playing. (^_^)

Oh, I know that a lot of communication happens through private messages. OOC's aren't exactly active communication tools either. My personal (possibly outdated) experience with PM's is that it's really nice during the preliminary planning stages, but then drops off rapidly. Some are great, but most RP's went down to once a week, or once a month if I don't count the "Can't post, not feeling well" kind of messages

As for writing and roleplaying being the same thing, I don't think I can agree with that all. It uses similar skills but if you write a book the same way you roleplay, or roleplay the way you write a book... well let's just say none of the roleplays here could be copy-pasted without edits and turned into best sellers xD

Yeah if the planning stage dies off…. The rp does sadly…. As for the rp and book writing…. Maybe im doing it wrong.. XD cus half the time i write like i’m rping with myself. XDXDXDXD

That's true, but some last long as well. Same can be said about group role plays. Some die, some last.

You guys aren't messaging your RP partners once the RP starts?

I know I do when I take on 1x1 since I think it is pretty important to keep talking even after the roleplay starts. But I've had plenty of people just stop replying after a while, and it just feels awkward to message again when it's in dms xD At least I think so xD I'm at least pretty active in the ooc social side of things as well.

I never do groups (PTSD lol), but I talk to my 1x1 partners pretty much daily! Brainstorming, plotting, fangirling, giving feedback on posts. I don't think I could easily write with someone who didn't engage even mildly in OOC.

1x1 vs group is the same as mono vs poly relationships. Maybe 'marriage' to one just isn't your thing and having more dicks to choose from is more exciting. Some people like variety, others familiarity. If you know what you like, why not just enjoy it. Sausage festivals can be lots of fun but, so can a mental massage and a silly joke that only you and your partner would find funny. It's just a preference,

I don't know why you guys want to keep bringing up group roleplays, when the topic was about the level of chatter people engage in for 1x1's xD
Guess that's more of a my reputation thing. Groups can lack communication too, it's just that there's usually at least one or two chatty people.
Glad to hear that some people are practically daily chatters with their 1x1's though

You asked: "how people manage to do 1x1's" . In this forum, there are only those two types. Either you are talking to one player or you are talking to more than one = group. The only comparison to be made is based on the options available. If there's no difference then it's not the number of players, it's whose playing and how well they communicate.

Badly phrased the initial post then. The thing I was getting at was the lack of communication rather than what's better/worse.
I'm trying to get into 1x1's cause Groups are a lot of work. But I just can't do the silence I've had to deal with before.

Okay then you just answered your own question. (btw, not pissy, just trying to answer the question). It's communication. We are all good at something, maybe practice a 1x1 with someone you trust who you were in a group with. They would best understand your style and once you are comfortable with it, you'll be a pro! (Well as much as any of us are at goofing off in YD)

Again maybe my bad wording, wasn't implying you guys were pissy. I appreciate all the comments thus far even if I don't agree with some of them.
There's just a cohort of... 'people' on the forums here who have a very... 'unwelcoming' stance towards me saying practically anything. You know, the "always be polite, never engage in discussion/arguments/conflict, shut up and nod your head" people.
